Arrival in Urumqi
Route: Urumqi airport to city hotel
Arrive in Urumqi and meet the team who will coordinate the seasonal version of the route.
Tianchi to Altay
Route: Urumqi to Tianchi to Altay
Start with Tianchi before continuing north toward Altay for the first mountain overnight.
Altay to Hemu
Route: Altay to Ahe Road to Hemu
Travel to Hemu via the Ahe Road only when its seasonal opening permits; otherwise use the confirmed alternate route.
Hemu to Kanas and Burqin
Route: Hemu to Kanas to Burqin
Move through the forest villages to Kanas before descending to Burqin for the night.
Devil City to Kuitun
Route: Burqin to World Devil City to Kuitun or Dushanzi
Leave the Altay region for the wind-shaped geology of World Devil City and continue south.
Sayram Lake
Route: Kuitun or Dushanzi to Sayram Lake
Reach Sayram Lake and keep the day deliberately light around its shoreline and changing weather.
Sayram Lake to Zhaosu
Route: Sayram Lake to Xiata to Zhaosu
Continue south via the seasonal mountain corridor when open, with the exact transfer confirmed for the departure window.
Zhaosu to Gongliu
Route: Zhaosu to Kurdening to Gongliu
Follow the western Tianshan landscape toward Kurdening and the valleys around Gongliu.
Nalati grassland
Route: Gongliu to Nalati Air Grassland to Nalati
Spend the day around Nalati's high grassland, with the visit paced to conditions on the ground.
Return to Urumqi
Route: Nalati to Duku Highway or Tianshan Shengli Tunnel to Urumqi
Return north by the Duku Highway when it is open; otherwise use the operational alternative through the Tianshan.
Turpan oasis day
Route: Urumqi to Karez Wells to Flaming Mountains to Urumqi
Visit Turpan's karez system and the Flaming Mountains on a final cultural day from Urumqi.
Departure from Urumqi
Route: Urumqi hotel to airport
Depart from Urumqi after the northern, western and oasis sections of the journey.

This is a warm-season reference route because northern mountain access and Turpan's heat must be considered together; exact timing determines the balance between outdoor time and road travel.
