Arrival in Urumqi
Route: Urumqi airport to city hotel
Arrive in Urumqi and prepare for a north-to-south traverse with several long road sections.
S21 to Burqin
Route: Urumqi to S21 Desert Highway to Five-Colored Beach to Burqin
Take the S21 north toward Burqin, with a stop at Five-Colored Beach before the first Altay overnight.
Hemu and Kanas
Route: Burqin to Hemu to Kanas
Enter the forest region through Hemu and continue to Kanas for the night.
Kanas to Burqin
Route: Kanas Lake and three bays to Burqin
Spend the day around Kanas Lake and its bays before returning to Burqin.
Devil City to Kuitun
Route: Burqin to World Devil City to Kuitun
Leave the forest north for the desert geology of World Devil City and the western corridor.
Sayram Lake to Yining
Route: Kuitun to Sayram Lake to Yining
Travel to Sayram Lake for a full shoreline circuit, then continue to Yining through the Ili Valley.
Kalajun to Tekes
Route: Yining to Kalajun Grassland to Tekes
Spend the day in the Kalajun grassland landscape before reaching Tekes.
Tekes to Nalati
Route: Tekes to Nalati Air Grassland to Nalati
Continue east across the Ili interior to Nalati, with grassland access arranged to match the day.
Nalati to Bayinbuluk
Route: Nalati to central Duku Highway to Bayinbuluk
Use the central Duku section when it is open and continue to Bayinbuluk for the plateau overnight.
Bayinbuluk to Kuqa
Route: Bayinbuluk to southern Duku Highway to Kuqa
Descend through the southern Duku corridor, passing the small and large Dragon Pools on the way to Kuqa.
Kuqa to Aral
Route: Kuqa to Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon to Aral
Visit the Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon before continuing west across the Tarim Basin toward Aral.
Taklamakan crossing to Hotan
Route: Aral to Taklamakan Desert Highway to Hotan
Cross the Taklamakan on the planned desert highway section, reaching Hotan by evening.
Hotan to Kashgar
Route: Hotan to Kashgar Old City
Leave Hotan for Kashgar, with an evening introduction to the old city's streets and food culture.
Kashgar to Tashkurgan
Route: Kashgar to White Sand Lake to Karakul Lake to Tashkurgan
Enter the Pamir corridor, visiting White Sand Lake and Karakul before the highland overnight in Tashkurgan.
Wakhan and Bandir to Kashgar
Route: Tashkurgan to Wakhan Corridor to Panlong Road to Bandir Lake to Kashgar
Follow the confirmed highland route through the Wakhan and Bandir landscapes, then return to Kashgar.

Depart from Kashgar after completing the full northern, western and southern traverse.
